History:

Using just $1,100, businessman Steve Madden launched the brand in 1990 by selling shoes straight from the trunk of his car to small Manhattan retailers. Betsey Johnson and other fashion designers were drawn to the massive platform style of the shoes and utilized them in their shows. On July 9, 1990, Steven Madden, Ltd. was founded in New York, and in November 1998, it was reincorporated in Delaware under the same name. In 1993, the company went public with Stratton Oakmont serving as its underwriter. In 2022, the business recorded net revenues of US$2.12 billion.
